Plea to Novation to Allow Ability To Adjust Filter Keytracking in Some Way on BS2

Plea to Novation to Allow Ability To Adjust Filter Keytracking in Some Way on BS2

Dear Novation:

I have owned a Bass Station II since December and it is an extremely awesome synthesizer.  It is great for many things - slowly modulating sounds, crazy sound effects, high arpeggiations and sequences, lead lines, processing external audio, sequencing other gear, etc. - but creating simple bass lines is actually quite difficult (despite the name "Bass Station II") because the keytracking on the filter (the classic filter at least) is always set to 100%.  This means for any bassline you write, there is almost never consistency in timbre and volume.

I am begging you to release a firmware update that would allow you to adjust the keytracking in any way, whether to simply shut it off, adjust it for 0%/50%/100%, etc. - anything.  This is huge and would make the synth so much more useful.

Please please please do this.  I created an account on this forum to make this request.

Thank you.

I agree that filter tracking would make this cool synth amazing.. It's kindof odd that it was omitted in the first place.. I wouldn't mind sacrificing something like LFO slew to get it, but it'd of course be even better if it could be added without sacrificing anything :)

I do hope Novation will implement this feature.. it'd make the BS2 the perfect monosynth!

I agree as well. Maybe holding transpose and function for a sub-sub function for all the stuff that was excluded :)

That would be perfect. No other uses for transpose that I'm aware of, aside transposing, but function being held would eliminate that problem.

i agree too.

please novation make the filter key tracking adjustable (0%/50%/100% would be fine) or at least make that it can be switched off.

Very good idea and necessary, many "bloops" sequences with drastic changes between low and high notes NEED a keytrak filter control to cutoff the low notes with hi resonance and maintain the high notes with less resonance, Kraftwerk style.

Thanks in advance!

I agree. It would be great.

In the meantime you can use the acid filter which has 50% keytracking.

It would be a perfect monosynth with this function!

Yes for sequences keytracking is essential. Big +1

How it could be implemented: press and hold [function] + turn [LFO2 depth] to set keytracking.

Agreed. If I could change/add one thing it would be the possibility to change the filter keytracking! :)

to me it's an incomprehensible design decision to make the filter key tracking fix, even the predecessor from 1997 the super bass station have a knob for filter key tracking, this is a really stupid limitation.

the bass station is now on the market for more than one year and novation released only one update and that is still a beta, this is ridiculous slow in comparison to the competitors.

slowly i am really upset about this issue and novations customer service, i will never buy another novation product.

Usually I check the specs of any new gear I buy very closely to make sure everything I need is already there (instead of futilely hoping for an update). But the ommision of filter-keytracking totally went past me as I didn't assume this would be left out at all.

Anyway, I still like the BSII a lot but for proper sound design some workaround would be highly appreciated. As well as any offical comment on this issue, for now I don't know if the developers are aware of this....

me too, i have checked the features carefully before i bought the bs2 but obviously not carefully enough. honestly i never thought that the filter key-tracking could not be adjustable, this is not what you expect from a brandnew synthesizer in 2013, especially when the predecessor from 1997 have this function, i mean seriously what a stupid limitation, this makes absolutely no sense to me.

next time i will check the features twice because waiting on updates from novation can take a long time and in the end the feature will never be implemented.

Dear Novation,

there's still no update concerning the (non-)adjustable filter tracking... Could you please at least post a short message if you are working on it or if I can give up hope that that this flaw will be remedied some day? Looking into this forum every day for months and no news at all is really frustrating...

Thanks a lot!

Looks very likely. They don't even bother to answer mails anymore, let alone questions in this forum...

Ive always found Novation/focusrite to be extremely approachable, the fact that they give their telephone number out is contrary to some of the comments, they do listen and where possible I think they do do useful updates and give additional fuctions when they can, albeit at a slow pace. Sure it could always be better but then it doesnt cost the earth.

This topic runs for more than a year now, many people have asked for a solution and there hasn't been a single word from Novation. I've written mails to the technical support but they always get forwarded to the german Novation team - they know nothing and don't care at all. That's what I've experienced and I'm sure I'm not alone with that.

This is not a matter of cost or the BSII being low-cost - IMHO the BSII is not just another low-cost workhorse but one of the best monosynths ever made and it's just a shame that this wonderful synth is spoiled by exactly ONE single major flaw which
1.  musically doesn't make any sense at all and
2.  could be easily mended if the filter tracking is being controlled by the software (I'm pretty sure it is).

If it's impossible to change this, then so be it but no statement at all from Novation is pretty bad in my opinion...

Then I am sure it'll be a great surprise when they add the functionality in the next update and of course the start/stop sync issue.

Keep on dreaming. ;)

Back in the Nova/SuperNova days Novation had a really good product support with regular updates for their instruments but unfortunately those days are long gone.

Adjustable Filter Key-Tracking will probably never happen because they simply don't care.

It's a shame!

I am strongly disappointed that there is not any answer from Novation althought the subject has 1,5 years now. I'm new owner of BS2 and as well as many of you haven't seen that there is lack of this useful function before buying. I think that it's my last Novation product because their dismissive approach to customers.

Hi guys,

We apologize for our lack of response here on this forum thread. We do appreciate hearing user's feedback regarding our products. A feature request was submitted to our developers in response to this thread. At this moment, there is no current update on the matter, but I will follow up on the request and provide any updates regarding the status.

Hi siliconscientist,

After looking into the status of the feature request, I see that it is something that is still currently being investigated by our development team, but I am not sure on the exact details of where they are at with it. This has been a widely requested feature so they are actively pursuing it and taking the request seriously. I will make sure to submit this information over to them so they know users are still eagerly awaiting the arrival of the feature.

Thanks for looking into this. This is a needed feature.

The feature could be part of the synch mode option
which then could also offer a synch mode where oscillator 2 doesn't follow pitch..

this gives rise to a class of sounds thats missing, I think it's as important
for synch sounds as modulation is

so there would be 6 options for synch

synch off, filter tracking on
synch off, filter tracking off
synch on, filter tracking on,  osc 2 tracking on
synch on, filter tracking on,  osc 2 tracking off
synch on, filter tracking off, osc 2 tracking on
synch on, filter tracking off, osc 2 tracking off

it could be indicated in the display as
OFF
OF1

on
on1 ... on4

or similar - at any rate there could be a naming scheme that's still compatible with On and OFF

where On and OFF are the exact same modes as now

please make that happen :)

Another option would be [Function] & [Transpose]

Either way you don't have to sacrifice any feature and either way is compatible with the printed key functions and manuals,

either way would make sense and would feel like intended from the beginning.

So please, it's obvious that it's possible...

don't care how, just give us a way to edit this somehow or another!

It can't be a big effort and is a soft-update. Make your customers happy and loyal and gain some new ones too, for sure...

Yes, it's time for this most essential update! Even if there are plans to discontinue the BSII, PLEASE don't leave this wonderful synth incomplete, Novation!!!

An on/off function for the fixed filter tracking would be enough if you'd ask me - just please give me and everybody else the possibility to get this out of the way! Thanks a lot and Happy Christmas!
