Use Midi From Ableton to Control BSII

I'm confused on how to do this.  I read in the manual that you can control the sounds via midi from a DAW.  Could someone please help.

Just set up your Bass Station as a midi device and send the tracks midi data from ableton to your Bass station, if you want to do control changes (i.e. affect lfo etc.) then you will need to send the following cc's:

It's not showing up as one of the options for Midi out in the midi channel of ableton.  It shows up as a midi from, but that's it

Make sure it's selected in your preferences in ableton, 'track' needs to be enabled as well as midi in and out.

It is.  All of the boxes are yellow indicating that it is on.  I have turned teh local to off as it says in the manal as well so it can be controlled externally.

Local off/on only effects whether the keys will play as you press them so wouldn't be the cause of the issue, however is recommended to set to off when using a daw as the midi track you record into will echo back to the BS, and would otherwise cause double notes.

Are you running via USB?

Also, you on mac or pc?

Any chance of taking a screenshot of your preferences screen in ableton and posting it on here?

Well thats odd, by the way you don't need 'Remote' enabled for either of the Ins or Outs, and Sync only needs to be enabled for the output.  Just incase that could be causing you issues.

If you go to the 'Audio Midi Setup' in mavericks (Spotlight search it if you've never used it before) double click on the Bass station 2 in the midi window and check that it's ins and outs are showing up.

Also, press the 'Test Setup' button so it's enabled and tap on the output arrow (Downwards) on the Bass Station device listed and see if it plays a note on your Bass station.  (Attached a screenshot as an example) - Each time you press it, a note should be played.

If it's working within OSX/Mavericks then it's just something in ableton that's not working correctly, could you screenshot your output selection screen in ableton for a midi track?

It does not recognize the bass station?  Or do I have to set it up?  Ableton recognizes it, but in my midi window it's not there.  I have rescanned devices.  NOvation has yet to contact me about this.  I have left messages and emails.  Their customer support is the worst I have ever seen for an electronic device company.  It's going on four days now since I first contacted them

It's not working in Mavericks.  it does not even recognize the device.  It shows my APC40 but not the bass station.  Weird.

Just give them a call mate, they will sort you out straight away, much better.

If it's showing in Ableton prefs then it must have worked at some point?  Have you recently updated to Mavericks and this problem has arose? Or did you have Mavericks installed when you first got the BS2?  That could may be explain why this has happened.

Also - Have you tried pressing the rescan midi button in the Audio Midi Setup?  It doesn't require a driver so something strange is going on, it should just work when you plug it in! ...Not that it's much help to hear that.

I had mavericks prior to bsII.  I have rescaned midi.  It would be nice if someone answered the phone when I called, but they don't, and they call back late in the evening.  So far, not a single focusrite, or novaiton product has just worked when I plug it in. This is my third piece of gear in a month from them

Yes I'm calling the right office.  Every single time I call I have to leave a message.  I finally got a call back a few days after leaving a message at close to 8pm.  It would be nice if someone could call me about this today.  352-339-5407

and the number I'm calling is 310-322-5500

As far as I'm aware, we aren't open at 8pm - that may be why you aren't getting through.
If you are unable to get in touch with support over the phone, I would suggest you utilise our livechat system, or contact us by email.

If you can provide a case number, I'll have a look for you in our system and see what I can do to help.

Taylor I called earlier in the day.  I'm on the eastern time zone.  Where is the livechat link?  I still ahve not been called back, or had any of my multiple emails responded to.

264414 is the latest case number from February 6th with no email other than the automated one.

257596 is the one i opened previously.  I received one email other than the automated one which only said "sorry for the late response, it was MLK day and we will call you later to resolve the issue"  As a customer I could not be more displeased with the customer service.  It is horrible, and novation/focusrite are one of hte leading brands in the market.  This is something I will be sure to let anyone know who asks.  The products, when they work are great, but even the best product on the market cannot make up for poor customer service.  At this point I think I should get some kind of a discount on a future purchase if you expect to retain me as a customer.  I'm really close to returning the product and not using these brands again, which is unfortunate because I have been using novation and focusrite products for a long time, since I started production about a decade ago.  I hope that we get to the bottom of this unfortunate situation.

Hey there Robert,

I've just had a dig through our system and read through your cases. They all appear to have been resolved in some way or another.  If this is not the case, please feel free to get in touch either here or through a private message and I'll do what I can to help.

I'm sorry to hear you've not been satisfied with your level of service, but it gladdens me to hear that at least our products have served you well!
As ever, let me know if there's anything I can do.

Best wishes,
Taylor
