FRUSTRATED NEWBIE

Happy New Year! Allow me to preface that I am a complete new user with no experience in controllers but I decided to go ahead purchase the LaunchKey Mini after some in store enquiries and recommendations.  The first one I purchased was dead in the box so I returned it for a refund. I then went to another store where I purchased the LaunchKey Mini 2. This one installed but I have to admit, your user instructions and FAQ pages are far from helpful and here is why:

- There are no instructions on how to install the bonus freebie downloads!

- What folder does one "setup" the V Station and Bass Station too?

- Where do you access the aforementioned once setup is complete? I tried installing to a test folder and all I see is an uninstall icon, no short cut or start icon to run the program!!

- Where does the Loopmasters Content go?

- The user guide is substandard at best and does not go beyond explaining the basic physical attributes of the unit... how about a real user guide that teaches a beginner how to use it LaunchKey, how to program it etc, and not just what the name of knob is!  This oversight is inexcusable!

Like I said I am a newbie so please forgive my rant and while appreicate the effort made with the website I feel it really does not help a beginner.  So if anyone can provide some clairty I would be eternally gratfule.

Finally, where the heck is the spell check!

Oh and I use Cubase AI Elements 8

Cheers!

VST:

As you use cubase you install teh software into the generic path it provides which will likely be c:/programe files/steinberg/vst or soemthing - same as you would install any other VST plugins and as such not really a novation problem about explaining at all.

And the same as any vst you wish to use in cubase - you open up your daw (you are using cubase) and insert the vst like any other into a track. If this is newbie then i suggest reading the cubase manual as really this will tell you about virutal instruments etc and how to use the,m

Loopmasters content goes on your hard drive. Its audio samples that you would put into Cubase. Put them where you like somehwere like c:/audio or soemthing ??!?
Then in cubase you can add those files into your current session/track and use them as you will. Again check the cubase manual for putting audio files in.

Controller:

As for the launckey mini i got one myself too - tbh if you are not using Ableton live then you are missing out on a few of the features of the keyboard tbh as most of the buttons and knobs will auto work in Ableton making it very quick easy and intuative to use.  (Did you watch the video or anything before purchasing it ? ) As a standard midi keyboard for you its nice but you will need to use your synths (whichever you want) or daw (cubase) MIDI LEARN FEATURE to use the knobs and buttons to do stuff. Again i would suggest looking at the cubase manual - but in essence if you want one of the knobs on the launchkey mini to do soemthing to a virtual knob in cubase then you will go along the process of midi learn - in which you click ont he virtual knob, tell it to learn, move the real know and hey presto that knob will know work and turn the virtual one. You dont program the keyboard - you program the computer, the synth whatever to interpret what the keyboard is doing and map it according to your taste.

Hopefully thats of use. Happy new year

Hi, I am another newbie.

I use Launchkey 25 with Garageband

For some reason as I was playing the device this weekend it came to pass that the keys would no longer play drum sounds, and when I tried to play drum sounds with the keys, the only key that made any sound was center C#, which would emit a barely audible hum

The pads continue to play the drums of various settings on Garageband.  Initially when I first used the device both the keys and the pads would play drums.

Can any body tell me how to get the device to return to playing drums from keys and pads both? Or is this device defective?

Thanks,

Justin

Hi Zagan Vetis,

Sorry to hear about the difficulties setting up the additional software, but we are more than happy to help. Once the plug-ins have been installed, the plug-in path may need to be set in Cubase so the software scans/loads them for use. Here is a video with more information on setting the plug-in path:

http://global.focusrite.com/answerbase/video-setting-a-plug-in-path-in-c...

Once the path has been set, opening the plug-ins for the first time will prompt the activation process. The V-Station and Bass Station plug-ins will be used on Software Instrument Tracks in your DAW. Here is another video that covers the activation process:

If you have any further questions or are experiencing issues with the Launchkey, please feel free to contact us through the following link so we may assist more directly:
