issues with firmware update

Hi
I don't know if I am being incredibly stupid (I'm not very technologically minded and very new to synths) but I am having issues with updating the firmware.

-mininova is turned off when install starts.

-When the installer asks if I want to check firmware and update, I power the mininova on holding down the two page buttons and OK button

-Exit to firmware comes on screen of mininova

-Then it powers off

-Mininova OS update progress bar on laptop sticks at just one bar

What should I be doing? It doesn't seem to be updating anything

Leave the mininova turned on throughout and it will automatically go into firmware update mode, you don't need to do anything in regards to turning it on/off or pressing buttons when going through the standard installer.

You only have to use that method with the two page buttons if you are doing it manually with a sysex file.  Post back if you still have problems, then you may have to perform it manually, but i highly doubt it.

Hi
Thanks for the reply.
When I was trying to update the mininova was powered by mains adapter. When I started the update process it turned itself off and the update progress bar on laptop froze. After leaving it for several hours and no change I turned synth off and back on again. The update progress bar then moved and after an hour or so said update complete but nothing had changed on the synth, it was still saying exit to firmware. It turned itself off again and when I turned it back on it was still saying exit to firmware!
Is there a way I can exit that.
(later on I did try the midi ox method and when it came to sending sysex it just kept saying application still sending data to output please wait until finished before sending and no matter how long I waited this didn't change)
Worried I've broken it all forever now! First time I had connected to a computer and now can't use it at all :(

What happens when you turn it on and it's not connected to your computer? Is it useable?  Or does it immediately say exit to firmware without pressing any buttons?

If it powers on ok then i would attempt the firmware upgrade again but using a known good usb port straight into your computer, not going through a hub or anything like that - Sounds like a communication issue occured when you originally tried the update.  They're pretty bulletproof in terms of the firmware, i've had mine restart and turnoff midway through having the update when the early firmwares were buggy and never experienced an issue that couldn't be fixed.

However, if you're getting the 'exit to firmware' message by default when turning it on, that would concern me - it would suggest that no firmware exists and you will need to contact Novation to have this sorted.

Hi Mate, sorry i updated my post before you replied - in that case i would contact Novation, i've not experienced that before, and i can't recall anyone posting that issue - It very much looks like you've no firmware loaded on it, and despite me saying they're bulletproof you've managed to get a bullet through!.  Do you find that traffic lights break as you drive around town, or experience static shocks when walking through electrical stores?  It could be that you're a superhero in the making?! ;)

Conceal, don't feel.

If you're in the uk give them a call and it will give you a much faster response (01494 462246) but they don't open their support staff till 2pm-6pm on fridays, very helpful too.

In the meantime i would try a different usb port and go straight into your computer (avoid any hubs) and see if you can get it to update using midi-ox.  update takes a few minutes normally, so you'll know if it's working as the mininova screen starts to show progress also.

I don't know if you had solved this, but I did, i had the same issue than you and i fixed it folloing this steps in this website:

http://us.novationmusic.com/answerbase/how-do-i-manually-update-the-firm...

BUT, IMPORTANT, it says you should suply power by usb, and this way didnt works for me, but if you supply by the AC ADAPTOR and conect also the usb just for transfer the info, then WORKS, at least works for me and now the sinth works perfectly.

I hope this could fix your problem if you couldn't before, and in a future if someone has it and is reading this, then can solve it too.

Regards

Si tienes problema al actualizar tu sintetizador Novation Mininova, sigue los pasos detallados en el siguiente enlace:

http://us.novationmusic.com/answerbase/how-do-i-manually-update-the-firm...
