MiniNova Wish List

Hello everyone, I've been regularly checking novation website to see if there is a firmware update. It's been more than 5 months since the last update and I feel like a new one should be out by now. So I suggest we start a sticky topic for things we would like to see in the future update (couldn't see one on this forum).

- Favorite sets: Using favorite button is really helpful on stage. But playing with different bands, 8 favorites are not enough. So adding a menu to select different favorite sets would give a great ease. (even 5 sets would mean 40 favorite sounds which is more than enough on stage)

- Selecting sound via entering numbers using the number pads.  I know that this would require another two pads for "0" and "9", but really there should be an easier way to select sounds!

- Tap tempo! seriously please!

- A fix for master volume knob. It doesn't increase the volume linearly. There is no change after 3 o'clock position, it is already at maximum. Also minimum volume goes to a low level but drops to zero suddenly at last bit. (I am also having some scratches while turning down the volume knob below half vol. but i don't think that it is a software related issue)

While I can't guarantee we will be able to achieve all the things you list, I can promise to present it to the relevant department.

I've stickied this thread - please post your Mininova Wish-List here.

I have a very minor glitch but seems like a glitch none the less.
The OSC Phase setting has ranges from 0 deg - 360 deg or can be set to Free.  The problem I noticed is that 0deg and Free settings seem to be swaped with how they function. Setting 0deg with multiple ocsillators in use, you can hear the oscillators goin in and out of phase.  If set to free, they seem to have a consistent attack and phasing.  Again, this seems opposite of what it should be.  If a new version is being worked on, may as well fix this.

Also the gate setting under the arp menu is still an issue.  At high values the gate behaves differently for one note played vs multiple notes held together.

Small complaints though.  Love my synth!

We need more favorites.

Possible solution for more favorites: (?)

Favorite button + pad = 8 favorites (actually default)
Press Favorite button + Patch left button:  other 8 favorites.
Press Favorite button + Patch right button:  other 8 favorites.
Total: 24 favorites.
Is this possible?
I'm dreaming?
Thanks!
Note: sorry for my english...

@ nova_on and slimhan

what you mean with tap tempo? is this the drift make mininova plays in the sequencer when the notes not constantly on the bar in the arrangement? thats the problem i have in cubase i have to go down to 64 samples buffer on my rme fireface uc for a good sync to the bars. and this is not a good worth to work with other stuff like vst and directX plugs.
A simple experiment to check this:
Take the kick in your mininova soundbank and play it a few tact. Record one of the kick and quantisize the sample to the tact and play it a few time simultaneously with the kick you played on the mininova. Then adjust the mininova kick with the sampled kick. Can you here a drift ??

when you mean that one with tap tempo i really happy that i not the only one have this problem and i hop they fix it one time. i love this synth but when you not have e top sync to your arrangement its not funny to work whith it for melodys or baseline.

Have an nice time
greetings

MiniNova Editor is a really beautifully designed vst. Here are some suggestions for it:

-First there needs to be a compare function. I should be able to hear and see the original version after editing a sound.

-Before changing a parameter I need to see the original value of it in case I need to undo it. This includes not only knobs but also bars (like modulation depth, etc.) and other visual parameters (such as envelope position values, etc.) Last parameter display only shows it after you make a change. This can be achieved by right clicking the parameter so we can see its original value on last parameter display. Or a mouse over display would be ok.

-Filters section can have  db/Hz graphs

Also irrelevant but, before buying mininova, I thought the animate buttons would work as snapshots of different tweaks. I mean yes they work like that but why not assign it the same way? Make some tweaks, change some parameters and hold down the animate button and here you go! I don't know if this is possible but wouldn't it be great?

by the way;

Would be cool to add audio through USB via a firmware update or a hardware box if its doable.

this is at the top of my wishlist. would be nice not to have to go from digital to analogue back to digital again and be able to get the digital audio straight out, that is, i am guessing that since this is a digital synth there must be digital to analogue conversion involved in outputting on the output and headphone jacks. would make connecting it a usb slot on to the audiohub possible and free up the single analogue in for somthing else making the audiohub a much better proposition.

Some new features and addtions to the current I'd like to see for the Mininova would be:

  • deeper programmable arp options so you can assign velocity values as well as pitch + or - to each individual step etc as well as more than 8 steps for longer patterns
  • a delay effect with a build in filter or EQ so you can control which frequencies from a dry patch are being delayed/ assign an LFO to a delay filter
  • more customization for the reverb effect, allowing room size/ diffusion alteration, maybe a built in EQ for that too + more room presets
  • allow layering mod/performance destinations to the tweak knobs like you can with the mod wheel or animate buttons.
  • oscillator panning
  • comb filter/s
  • multiple instances of the editor available in a DAW

I'll post more if I think of anything else.

Multiple editor instances would be great!

just fear that it would take too much dev time as to not confuse the average user (I.e. Only one editor can be active at a time) but man, it would help workflow immensely!,

Would like the synth to remember the patch in each category when changing categories. Would be a cute feature

Just submit it through the answerbase via http://bit.ly/NovationSupport and our tech team will put it in the right place (or let you know if what you're requesting is already possible) :)

I have submitted....

Would it be possible to have the these features added to the MiniNova (which I adore!!!!). Thank you :)

> Have the synth remember the patch number when changing categories? So that, if I select A034 MogueLead while in category "Keyboard/Leads", then switch to category "Pads/Strings" and select A010 SonarPing, if I switch back to "Keyboard/Leads", the MogueLead patch is still active, and thus works like this for all categories?

> Have the synth patches loop round when searching through the patches. So, if I have "ALL" category selected, if I go back one from A000, the patch in C127 loads, instead of the selection stopping at A000, so it loops round? Also, you will be able to go from patch C127 to A000 to save from having to go through all the patches to get to bank "C" (my feature will be a shortcut).

> Would it be possible to have the LCD display what effect is applied when pressing the Animate button, so if you like an "Animation" you are hearing, you can look at the display and quickly see which one it is? Just like how the display shows what parameter you are tweaking when rotating the knobs.

I love the patch # wrap around idea.

Something I would love would be to have a different pitch bend amount for up and for down, e.g. whole step up - octave down.

I made a request with the link above for this but I thought I would share it with you all

Here's another...

When you hit an animation button the effect is not instantaneous but has something like a portamento or envelope on it.  The parameter being controlled smoothly transitions to the new value.  It would be GREAT to be able to control the speed of that "portamento".

I think this is possible now, depending what you're after. Since each mod slot has two sources, you could make one them an envelope. There's 4 mod envelopes not counting the amp and filter envelopes, which can be used as well. Keeping the sustain full and adjusting the attack should give the effect you're talking about.

For instance, if I want LFO 1 to mondulate filter 1's frequency, but gradually increase intensity. I would put source 1 to LFO1, source 2 to ENV3, destination to F1 freq, and select an animate pad.  Then adjust the mod amount LFO and Env to taste.

Only way this wouldn't be an option is if you already have two sources in mind.

Edit: Oh yeah, almost forgot. To have Env3 only trigger when you push the selected animate button, you need to set E3TTrig to TTriggr (not ReTrig) matching the number animate pad you're using.

-I don't know if this is possible but please CLASS COMPLIANT USB! I want to use MiniNova as a midi controller through usb port with Kronos or with IPAD. I know DIN works very well but how about usb? (also once it is class compliant, maybe an editor app for ipad in the future why not:) )

-Another important thing about MiniNova Editor; Vocoder and Vocal Tune sections do not update the parameters when the patch is changed.

Wouldn't one of those cheap usb to midi (A Class compliant one of course) work?, just plug the mininova via DIN to that?

Add a sort of "threshold trigger" so when an external input or an LFO gets to a certain amplitude it can trigger an envelope or an animation.
You could use the little mentioned AudInEnv to trigger envelopes.
With the LFO you could regularly trigger envelopes over time.
OK I'm a sort of fool and bought both the UN and the MN.
Add AudInEnv to the UN and the threshold trigger to both.

hi @ all

i wondering that the mininova drivers are in beta status again its a long time a go that this version is going out and never will coming a new full version of the driver. Novation have you stop the work for the driver or is there a lot of things to do ? but in jun 2014 one jear will over from the update 1.3.8b i think its not a sign of professional programming.

I dont know if this wish is technically possible but engineers will know:

I want to be able to TURN the microphone ON while using other patches than VOCODER/VOCALTUNE.

Maybe assign a default effect to it or if not possible, just the regular sound received from microphone.

The idea is to talk/sing while playing other patches...maybe applying an effect to it is not possible, but something that allows me to enable the mic will be great.

You can do all that mate, and process effects to it on top of playing the mini as a synth.

Easiest way is to Go Menu -> Audio In -> Input FX

Turn that up and you'll hear your voice going through the effects route.  It's global too, so as you change patches it remains.

Yes you can turn on the mic this way but you will get unwanted effects on it. If the patch has delay then you will have delay on mic too. There should be a way to get clean mic sound on whatever patch you are. AND this clean mic sound should be off by itself when you select a vocoder patch.

It probably isnt possible, but it would be nice if you could leave the mic connected and the ext in connected at the same time.

Then you could somehow toggle between mic input and  ext in without the hassle of plugging and unplugging input's.

Hey skijumptoes !!!

Thanks for that quick reply... as I am reading it today!!

Can I do the same but with the MIC that Mininova has by default? as it is much easier to get into use it.

Best Regards

Can I use the mic on the ultranova the same way? so that I can sing into it and play the ultranova (not vocoder but any patch?)

thanks

Some cool suggestions:

-Use the mixer output as a vocaltune source
-Apply glide to vocaltune in kbcontrol mode
-Vocaltune as a osc source. So you can do some real ring mod

And then there is this other thing but... I mean i'm just a dreamer

-FM Synthesis, the real thing

I could even pay for such an update

1. Tap Tempo

2. Receive and recognize Start/Stop messages so that an arp is in perfect sync with any DAW or click on stage

3. Tap Tempo

4. Enhanced FX section in any possible way especially EQ and reverb

5. Tap Tempo

6. Fix Midi Sync Drift issue entirely

7. Tap Tempo

Did I mention Tap Tempo?

Just bought a MiniNova and am trying to figure out if this is possible, so far I see no sign of it.

Can the MiniNova's 8 pads be used as a MIDI controller to trigger samples/drums in a VST? If not, I'd like to suggest this be added.

sl23 - You could probably use some clever mapping techniques to perform such a task as they do send out midi data, but it's not just simple note on/off type, i think it's pairs of midi controller data. So you would need a piece of software which your midi output goes through to translate this to note on/off.  But even then you would hit an issue with how long the note should be played by default.

Would get quite complex to achieve and not worth it from the viewpoint that there's no velocity data being sent either.  Best to get something cheap like the little Korg nanopad if you want this functionality, i know it's not a novation product but they are a ridiculously cheap price to get some basic velocity enabled pads in your setup.

May I drop the M-Word. Microtuning! Since there is no multitimbtrality nor poly aftertouch, a workaround is not possible.

Simple not storable 12 note single byte midi-tuning dump would be enough for me.

Is it pausible to get the same sound as daniel fisher in a patch like on this video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pi5HaqjO694&feature=youtu.be&t=7m36s

I already downloaden the B3 patch but it didn't sound the same as in this video, and im a rookie with synthesizers so i cant recreate the sound like daniel did.

I would like bigger amount for the pitch wheel like on the bass station 2  -24 +24

More Voices for the Unison

And FILTER FM

Novation should be take this seriously and add those features at the next update.
