Ableton version

Hay i'm interested in either 61 sl mk2 or perhaps the launchkey. Problem is i want version 9 of Ableton live lite. Is it included in 61 sl mk2? Or in the launchkey?

Thanks.

I'm pretty sure that the SL's come with Ableton Live Lite 8, and the Launchkeys come with Live Lite 9 - Check when buying one, it's usually listed on the description (Or printed on the box if you go to a shop).

So lets say it's Ableton live lite 8 in sl, there isn't an option to upgrade it to Live lite 9 for free?

Unfortunately No, because Live Lite isn't an off the shelf product, it's designed to be a 'starter' product, almost like OEM to be included with hardware, so you get a serial number which unlocks it with selected hardware.  Other than that, you cannot purchase it, and therefore upgrade to it.

The 'cheapest' product Ableton does is Ableton Live Introhttps://www.ableton.com/en/live/feature-comparison/

It's similar to Lite but has double the amount of audio/midi tracks (16, rather than just 8) - However, you can't upgrade from Lite to Intro, you can only go from Lite to Standard or Suite.  You could however purchase Ableton Live Intro 9 as an off the shelf product, but even then it's quite a limited product, yes it's a good price - but not worthy of purchase if you're already got Lite installed (IMO).

There's really not a massive difference jumping from Abletion 8 to 9 to be honest, the main improvement for me was automation within clips.  Other than that, if you're starting out you wouldn't notice much difference - it's practically identical in looks and use, and certainly (In my mind) is not worthy of a full version upgrade unless your hardware requires it (i.e. push controller etc.)!

I'm mainly a Logic user, so apologies if i've missed anything above!
